It looks like Nas does have something going for him besides financial woes and the chaotic conflict with his ex-wife Kelis. Nas is the subject of a book coming out called Born To Use Mics, authored by Michael Eric Dyson. The book will be a detailed look and breakdown of Nas' debut and most popular album, Illmatic. The album will be analyzed via the reflections of some of hip-hop's biggest writers. Among them are: Marc Lamont Hill, Imani Perry, and quite a few more. The writers were inspired to do this project by the impact that the album had on the game. They feel that for Nas' young age, the album was an incredible project with a game changing set of tracks. They all agree that it deserves the place it has received, as one of the best and most influential albums in hip-hop history.

That's some pretty strong praise for the rapper. This will put Nas in a league with several other rappers dropping books this year. It's great company though as that list includes: Kanye West, Jay Z, Wyclef Jean, and others. Born To Use Mics is scheduled to hit retailers on Monday, December 28, 2009. Something to keep in mind, as you go to spend that holiday gift money.

If you don't own Illmatic already, you can grab a copy over at Amazon. And Milwaukee fans should be sure to keep an eye out for the book at their local Borders or Barnes & Nobles book stores.
