The environmental education program at Lake James State Park is offering an astronomy program on Saturday evening November 7, 2009. The star party will be from 5:45 till 8 pm.

The star party will celebrate the 400th aniversary of Galileo Galilei's first use of telescopes for astronomy. Weather permitting, telescopes will be set up to allow participants to observe the night sky. The park gates will close promptly at 6 pm, so stargazers wanting to participate in the program must arrive on time.

Lake James State Park is in McDowell County near Marion, NC.  There is an exit from interstate 40 for Lake James.

This stargazing opportunity is part of a larger environmental education program offered by Lake James State Park. For more information, or to register for the program call (828) 652 5047.

The star party will be held outside. Dress warmly.
