5 Tips for Learning How to Mountain Bike:
-
Borrow, rent or buy a bike that fits. Visit a local bike shop to get an idea on what size bike fits you best.
-
Get a feel for the bike -- how to shift, how to brake, how to balance in a nice, soft grass field, where falling won't hurt.
-
Momentum is your best friend for going up, down or over bumps, rocks and other obstacles.
-
Look where you want to go... not where you don't want to go. If you stare at a big rock, you will hit it! If you look at the 2' gap to the right of the rock, you will pass the rock with no problems. And keep your vision focused 8'-12' in front of you.
-
Learn to ride with patient, understanding people. The learning curve can be fairly quick when learning with the right people. DO NOT let someone talk you into going to Downieville on one your first few rides!
