Trail detour sign explains the route to get from Beals Point to Dike 4.
Jeff Barker

Folsom Lake trail users in the Granite Bay area should be aware that a trail detour is in effect between Dike 4 and Dike 6, as part of the Folsom Dam Safety Project.

Cycling, walking, running or horseback riding north of Beals Point to the park access point just east of William Cavitt Junior High School is off limits until the levee work has been completed by the Bureau of Reclamation.

The detour is somewhat well-signed, but directional arrows sometimes point the wrong direction.  The detour essentially follows the nice trail that was built last year, although a fun section of singletrack below (west of) Dike 4 has been impacted by the tree and dirt removal.

Some new trail has been added, but it is wide and covered with deep decomposed granite.

Changes are afoot. Keep your eyes open.
