Longmont police say they were called to a field near Weld County roads 8 and 25 Saturday night after a farmer found a mysterious package buried in a shallow hole in his corn field.

According to reports, after determining the package - wrapped in plastic and secured with yellow, nylon ropes - wasn't a bomb, investigators learned it was a cow tongue which had been cut open, apparently filled with two kinds of pepper, a photograph and some kind of incantation in Spanish, and closed with sutures.

Upon further investigation, officers have concluded the package may be part of a Santeria or Hoodoo spell used to keep one person from talking about or gossiping about another person.

Police say they have no suspects and are working to translate the note found inside the tongue. If found, it's unlikely the person who did it will face any charges.

You just can't make this stuff up, kids.
