Man allegedly sells daughter for beer, meat

A California man has been arrested after police say he sold his 14-year-old daughter into marriage for some beer, cash and several cases of meat.
According to reports, the alleged sale was discovered after the man asked them for help to get his daughter back because he hadn’t received all of his promised payment.
The same reports showed that the girl went willingly with her buyer – an 18-year-old man – but being that she’s younger than 18, she can’t legally marry.
Apparently, such arranged marriages are becoming common in Greenfield, Calif.
Yikes.
I wonder what that says to this poor girl. Is she worth no more than a few cuts of meat, some (probably) cheap beer and a small wad of cash?
I certainly hope if my dad decided to sell me, he’d have some higher demands than those.
