A Colorado Springs man who identified himself as an atheist before attacking two women because they are Christian will lose an eye after the pair reacted in self-defense, police said Monday.

According to reports, the man showed up with a large knife at the women’s apartment in Colorado Springs early Saturday morning and threatened to behead the pair because of their faith.

The women reacted by grabbing a shotgun and ordering the man to drop his knife. When he refused, one of them struck him in the face with the butt end of the gun.

Doctors say the man was injured so severely by the blow that his eye will have to be removed.

The women told police the man had begun threatening them a couple of days before the incident, and that he appeared to have been drunk when the confrontation occurred.

Now, I’m not locked down on what I think about religion or faith, but I am quite sure I am not going to go around threatening to chop people’s heads off because they believe in something I don’t.

And saying “The booze made me do it” isn’t an excuse.

Wait a minute… maybe that excuse isn’t so far off the mark - if he “had a little captain in him.”

I mean, pirates do wear eye patches, don’t they?
