A Colorado springs man was arrested Monday night after arriving late to a court-ordered MADD drunk driving victims panel and trying to punch his way past a police officer to get into the meeting.

According to reports, the man, identified as 25-year-old Dustin Chady, told the officer he was going to have to go to jail if he didn’t get into the meeting.

Often, people convicted of drunk driving in Colorado are required to attend such a meeting as part of their sentence.

The officer was able to deflect Chady’s punches and instead punched Chady at least twice in the face before arresting him.

Chady reportedly told MADD employees that he’d gone to the wrong location before finding his way to the meeting at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Ave. and was half an hour late.

The meetings, which include people who have lost a loved one to a drunken driving crash or were themselves injured by a drunk driver, are closed after they begin; attendees are not allowed to enter if they arrive late.

MADD employees told reporters that they pay uniformed, off-duty police officers to work at their meetings to provide security.

Chady reportedly has one previous conviction of driving while impaired and of possessing marijuana. Now, in addition to apparently failing to comply with his latest DUI sentencing, he's facing charges of assault on a police officer.

He obviously didn’t learn his lesson if he got another impaired driving-related conviction and then tried to punch a cop to get into a MADD meeting – at a funeral home no less.

I think this guy’s killed one too many brain cells.

Hopefully this will be the wake up call he needs to lay off the sauce.
