A teen driver who told police he was speeding back home because he’d forgotten his wallet on the way to Starbucks is facing felony vehicular assault charges.

Police say the 16-year-old boy – traveling at an estimated 47 to 52 miles per hour – struck a 6-year-old girl who was riding her bicycle in an alley near her Colorado Springs home.

The child suffered severe brain injuries, broken bones and a punctured lung. She remains hospitalized.

Take away his license – and his Starbucks card.
