As of November 5th, the Italian murder trial of Amanda Knox is nearing an end.
Knox is an American student, originally from Washington state. In November 2007, Knox was studying abroad in Italy when her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, was founded brutally murdered in the apartment she shared with Knox and two other women.
Kercher's throat had been slashed, and she was found only partially clothed.
Knox, along with two alleged accomplices (one has since been found guilty), were accused of the murder. Knox apparently implicated herself in the crime during questioning with the Italian police.
Kercher was allegedly killed by the three after she would not agree to a sexual encounter with Knox and her boyfriend at the time, Raffaele Sollecito, who comes from a wealthy Italian family.
Sollecito is on trial with Knox for the murder.
The circumstances of the gruesome case have attracted international attention, and Amanda Knox (also known as "Foxy Knoxy", a name Knox gave herself, which the media has continued to use) has managed to become the centerpiece of the case, rather than the victim.
Soon, it will be up to the jury to decide Knox's fate, when the closing arguments begin November 20th.
