A police officer who stepped in and confronted the alleged gunman at the Fort Hood Army Base in Texas is now being celebrated as a hero.
Sgt. Kimberly Munley, a civilian officer stationed at Fort Hood, was the first on the scene at the time of the shooting, which killed 13 and wounded many on November 5th.
The alleged gunman was army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan.
Hasan was about to be deployed, and was reported to be enraged at that prospect.
Munley is credited with confronting the gunman, and managing to shoot him four times, before being hit herself in the legs.
Munley's efforts are believed to have prevented a higher death toll in the tragic shootings.
Hasan is currently hospitalized, in stable condition under armed guard.
