Zenyatta wins the Breeders' Cup Classic horse race at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Zenyatta is the first female horse to win the race in its history.
According to ESPN, even the opponent camps to Zenyatta's have high praise for the horse and her performance. She has not lost a race in 14 outings. "Horse of the Year" is a title many of them would willingly bestow on her.
Zenyatta is a particularly exciting horse to watch race, since she is known for coming from behind late in the race to outrun all the competitors in front of her. She did this again today at the Breeders' Cup. Jockey Mike Smith said today, "I still never got to the bottom of her. That's the amazing thing. She still had a run left. She's incredible. She's sent from heaven."
The horse won a $5 million purse today at Santa Anita Park.
