The Eagles failed to stay undefeated in the NFC East, losing a tough game against the Cowboys Sunday night after rolling over the Redskins and Giants the two previous weeks.  Philadelphia's defense continued its solid play, and Philadelphia's offense continued to exhibit a split personality.

The Cowboy passing game remained hot against a talented Eagle secondary, while the Cowboy defense was able to put enough pressure on Donovan McNabb to keep him from getting into a healthy rhythm.

Here we can examine this game's implications for the final eight weeks of the NFL season, and examine how I did with the game preview article.

What went as expected:

Both quarterbacks played well, but Tony Romo outperformed McNabb and went over 300 yards passing for the fourth time this season.  McNabb was hampered by the Dallas pass rush, keeping him from finding the big plays in the Cowboy secondary.  Romo did turn the ball over, as expected, but did so just once in the game.

Marion Barber was slowed by the Philadelphia defensive front and was kept out of the end zone in the contest.  Barber totaled just 50 yards rushing, while Felix Jones had little impact on the game in any way, finishing with no catches and just ten yards on the ground.

Miles Austin scored a touchdown for the fourth straight game, grabbing a 49-yard score to put Dallas ahead in the fourth quarter.  Despite recording more catches and yards than Austin, Roy Williams continues to play second-fiddle to him in the fantasy world.

As predicted in the preview, both tight ends played a large role in the outcome of the game.  Brent Celek caught three balls for 39 yards and a touchdown, while Jason Witten had seven catches for 43 yards.  Romo and Witten connected for several important third down conversions, though the Eagles did find a way to keep the opposing tight end out of the end zone this week.

What I missed:

Looking back, I really missed a lot this week.  McNabb did not repeat his previous week's performance, partially due to problems with the pass protection.  Romo secured the ball fairly well, only throwing the ball to one Eagle on the night.

Westbrook did not play due to lingering symptoms of his concussion, and LeSean McCoy put up big numbers as a result.  McCoy piled up 115 total yards, but was unable to reach the end zone.

DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin were both held off the scoreboard.  Jackson did not have any of his patented "sometimes I amaze myself" plays and finished with two catches for 29 yards.

Philadelphia's defense played about as well as expected, but forced only one turnover.  Meanwhile, Dallas' defense played far better than expected, allowing only 16 points and forcing two turnovers.

Oh yea...and I was wrong.  David Akers kicked three field goals.  But I did tell you to start him.
