Cirque de la Symphonie put on an outstanding show on Saturday November 7 at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener. Some of the moving music included Tchaikovsy’s “Waltz of the Flowers” from Nutcracker and “Danse des cygenes” from Swan Lake. Also included were pieces by Dvorák, Saint-Saens, Bizet, Shostakovich and Rimsky-Korsakov.
The music was beautiful, but so were the costumes and entertainers. The acrobats and aerial performers were so graceful and colourful while flying through the air, but it was hard on the nerves because there was nothing soft to land on if they fell. The performers moved through the music so gracefully that it seemed as though they were always supposed to be a synchronized part of the concert. There was a funny and talented mime that juggled all sorts of crazy glowing objects in between other performances.
The strongmen were quite dramatic in their gold paint and blew everyone away at the end with their contortions. It’s hard enough to perform a handstand with two hands, leave alone with one hand on top of another man’s head! They twisted together so gracefully that it appeared that they were one.
The Kitchener Waterloo Symphony has other concerts coming up, so if you get the chance, check them out.
The Centre in the Square is only about an hour drive from Toronto and it’s definitely worth it. Other performances happening in December at the Centre in the Square include the Broadway family musical The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast.
