Thanksgiving is a mere three weeks away. I've been planning my Thanksgiving menu for what seems like five years now, and it made me think of what to do for Albert and Cologne.
There will definitely be more people around that weekend, and they'll know we're eating more food than is usually consumed here in one sitting. I've always thought that pets should get special food on Thanksgiving, because we do, it only seems fair. But seemingly harmless people food can cause adverse reactions in cats.
People food is this ever-appealing treat for all pets, and can be given here and there as a treat. But it should be kept to simple meat dishes for cats. This means a bit a tuna straight from the can or a bit of cooked chicken before it goes into tacos. Once it's seasoned, it's best to keep it away from cats. A nibble of turkey should be okay, as long as it's kept to that, a treat-sized nibble. It's best to stay away from anything else.
I think I'm going to get Cologne and Albert each a can of turkey dinner flavored cat food for Thanksgiving. That way they get a treat (extra wet food) and they (kind of) get what we're eating, anyway. Now if they only made some type of cat-safe pumpkin pie, we'd be set.
Here's to a safe and happy Thanksgiving to you and your pets!
