According to the AJC, Zaza Pachulia is getting into the restaurant business. Nothing says 'American Dream' like frittering your money away on a business about which you know nothing.
Zaza is following in the illustrious footsteps of many Atlanta athletes and entertainers before him. Who can forget Michael Vick's Tasting Room or Usher's Grape. Jermaine Dupri's restaurant also shut down.
Of course, the most spectacular failure of an Atlanta restaurant with ties to local athletes is that of Jock's and Jill's. Once an Atlanta staple, the venture started by Hawks Scott Hastings, Randy Wittman and the man of a million suits, Craig Sager, went through a protracted legal battle that shut most of the locations down. Apparently the woman who sued the chain recently lost another round in court, but the thing has been going on for nine years now. Nobody is a winner in that one.
At least the restaurant that Zaza is buying is already established and pretty good. It also sounds like the owner if going to stick around and help out. If Zaza will just keep his mouth shut and sign the checks, the restaurant should remain viable.
Speaking of protracted legal battles...
Apparently, another round of the Atlanta Spirit's legal battle is down. That can only mean one thing - an appeal!
After three years of court dates, a judge ruled that the seven owners of the Spirit group have no legal right to buy out Steve Belkin.
The entire episode is so ludicrous that I cannot find much else to say about it, except that if you are not rich enough to own a sports franchise on your own, do not buy one. It is amazing how well the Hawks' summer has gone in light of the ownership's bumbling nature.
