For the next couple weeks the CU campus is in for an amazing treat. Not just one, but two very powerful and influential women will be making their way to the Boulder campus to give speeches.
Madeline Albright, who served as Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton and was the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government at the time, will be speaking on Wednesday, April 16, at 7:30 pm at the Coors Event Center.
Tickets are eight to 30 dollars for the general public, but only one dollar for students, thanks to the Distinguished Speakers Board.
The DSB tries to bring at least one prominent speaker a year. Last year, it was Kofi Annan, and the year before it was B.B. King, who gave an impromptu concert instead of a lecture which was amazing. And for only a dollar! You never know what's going to happen.
The next night, Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female Supreme Court Justice, will be doing a public speaking on April 17 at 7 pm at Macky Auditorium to talk about her experiences on the court, and her life.
The lecture is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West and the CU Law School. O’Connor will also be receiving the Stegner Award to Westerners, which is awarded to people who have demonstrated singular achievement, creativity and dedication in their professional lives.
Tickets are only 3 dollars for students and 10 dollars for the general public.
The tickets for both events can be purchased at all King Soopers outlets, online at ticketswest.rdln.com/%29 and ticketswest.rdln.com/ and by phone at 1-866-464-2626. Student tickets are available through the UMC Connection in the University Memorial Center.
This is a rare opportunity to see two women who played an integral part in shaping the United States government and politics speak about their experiences and opinions on today’s issues. And in two days in a row! I would urge everyone to attend.
When I saw the posters for both of these lectures I got really excited. I immediately called my friend Adam and asked him to come with me.
"Adam! Want to go with me to see Sandra Day O'Connor next week? It's practically free and it's Sandra Day O'Connor!" I said.
