The first signs of summer

April 16, 11:27 AM
by Julia Yugel, CU Examiner

It definitely was a beautiful day today. I skipped my first two classes, so I didn’t arrive on campus until mid-afternoon. I stepped out of my car into the sunshine and arrived on what looked like a scene from MTV’s Spring Break.

All that's missing from this scene is Tila Tequila hosting some sort of trashy contest

As soon as the weather improves even a little, Farrand Field is transformed into a hotbed of tanning, giggling sorority girls and boys tossing around balls for every sport imaginable. Today was no exception.

I hate because I’m jealous of their tans

I liked the inflated pool idea

As I squinted in the sunshine, I got hit in the head by a tennis ball.

“Ow,” I said, rubbing my head, and hoping I didn’t have a concussion.

Generic Frat Guy trotted up to me.

“Sorry. Are you okay?” he asked.

I just gave him a dirty look.

“I’ll probably be okay,” I said. "Except, where am I? And what year is this?"

He stared at me for a moment, looked confused, then shrugged and went back to playing golf with his fellow frat brothers and tennis ball.

Yes folks, Farrand Beach is open for the season.

But may I ask, how smart is it to practice your golf swing in the middle of a crowded campus? Isn’t that just asking for trouble?

(not the boys responsible for my near-death this afternoon, but you get the point)

Anyways, the opening of Farrand Beach makes me happy because it means summer is almost here. Only three weeks left until finals!

Of course only in Colorado can it be 80 degrees one day, and the next there be a prediction of snow. However, I’m optimistically hoping the meteorologists are wrong.

I’m having fun looking at the shirtless boys on the field.
