Built in 1955, the Sheraton Yankee Clipper Beach Resort has been a mainstay on Fort Lauderdale beach for over fifty years.

The hotel closed in June 2009 to begin a multi-million dollar renovation to both the interior and exterior areas of the property.

The renovations include enhancing the views of the Atlantic Ocean, adding a fitness center, Sheraton Kids Club program and 7,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and over 5,000 square feet of outdoor meeting space. The property will also have two outdoor swimming pools with views of the ocean.

The dining facilities both indoor and outdoor, including the bar and lounge areas will also be extensively renovated and expanded to allow more seating capacity.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Starwood Capital Group have indicated that the extensive renovations will establish the hotel as one of the leading properties in the area.

The hotel is scheduled to open in January 2010.
