What if you could ask Jesus one question? What would it be? Of course, that is taking to mind that you have gotten over the initial slack-jawed reaction to being in His presence. Would you ask about Noah and the ark? Or would you ask what heaven is like? Would you maybe be curious as to how Satan became Satan? I thought I’d ask some family members and friends what one question they would have. One of my sisters thought she would probably ask if we get to explore planets and other heavenly bodies. Doesn’t it seem like God would want us to share in marveling at His creation? Planets, stars, moons, nebulae, asteroids, quasars…so many incredible objects. Plus we only have forever and ever and ever so I think we’d have the time to check them out. I mean God must have activities planned for us right? To quote Prince, “forever and that’s a mighty long time.”
When I asked my mother, she gave it some careful thought, and said her question would be how could Jesus give his life for us being the sinners we are? I’ve wondered that as well. Because really, I know I sin in thought, word or deed on a daily basis. Of all the awful things I’ve done can it really be possible to be forgiven? It’s so easy to doubt salvation. We need to remember that the bible mentions forgiveness or a form of the word 64 times. We can be sure of it!
“All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Acts 10:43 (NIV)
The next time that old serpent starts putting feelings of doubt in your head, find the above verse or one of the many others and claim it!
In an email a few months ago, my friend Scott said he wanted to ask if humans were the only intelligent life in the universe. We know the bible isn’t God’s Wikipedia. Many things aren’t referenced by the bible but we know them to be true. For instance, the bible doesn’t specifically mention dinosaurs yet we know they existed. Did they really have the purple skin and sinister red eyes as the Discovery channel has often depicted? A little embellishment maybe? It does seem odd the universe would be virtually void of life but that’s what makes it a good question. I know when I was 12 years old and watched E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial I thought it would be so cool if the galaxies were filled with little, long-fingered E.T.’s. It’s yet another mystery of the many mysteries of creation.
There are so many things I can think of that I’m dying to know. Should I ask about ‘once saved always saved’ or maybe something about Hell? While there are plenty of serious questions to be asked I can’t help but probably ask something with a little more levity. My burning question would be: When babies enter Heaven are they still babies? I mean think about it. Millions and millions of babies! If they remain babies, can they all talk? Take care of themselves? If not, who takes care of them and where? Is there one special mansion that is just one gigantic nursery? Millions and millions of crying babies. But it is Heaven so maybe it would be millions and millions of laughing babies. And then they’re would have to be people assigned to care for them. Does everybody have to take a turn? Yes, it’s these kind of questions that keeps me awake at night. Being a babysitter…for eternity.
