While finding good Mexican food in Mission Beach is almost as easy as finding Mexican food in, well, Mexico, it really doesn’t get any better than La Playa Taco Shop. With its insanely bright color scheme and friendly staff, this family owned and operated taquería offers authentic-as-it-gets Mexican cuisine at affordable prices. Located in North Mission Beach on the bay side of Mission Blvd. you can't miss La Playa due to its yellow-orange exterior and the fact that it's always busy!

La Playa Taco Shop offers traditional Mexican staples like tacos (the Carnitas Tacos are a favorite among frequent diners), quesadillas, enchiladas and burritos, available in practically any incarnation. Among the massive burritos on La Playa's menu, the Chicken California Burrito and the Breakfast Burrito are clear winners. Both options come with or without rice and are oozing with yummy fillings like guacamole, cheese and sour cream. The Breakfast Burrito (available with bacon or chorizo) is delicious whatever time of day it is, but if eaten for breakfast it is sure to leave you full until dinnertime. While options like enchiladas and taco can be ordered a la carte, they can also be served up combo-style, with beans and rice.

The authenticity of La Playa Taco Shop extends to the beverage selection, as patrons willing to forgo the familiarity of Coke and Nantucket Nectars juices and iced teas can enjoy Jarritos Mexican drinks like the Tamarindo Soft Drink or Strawberry or Mango Soda. For the lucky few that manage to save room for desert, La Playa offers traditional fare like delectable, cinnamon-and-sugar drenched churros and, of course, the ubiquitous Mexican dessert: flan.

The only apparent problem with La Playa is that it isn't open late night, which is a shame, because it sure would be tasty at 2:00am! So check out La Playa Taco Shop the next time you are in the mood for authentic Mexican food, and don't forget to ask for both the green and the red sauce on the side, they'll know what you're talking about.

For more info: Visit La Playa Taco Shop at 3973 Mission Blvd. in Mission Beach or call (858) 488-7405. Open Monday - Saturday: 8:30am - 8:30pm. Sunday 8:30am - 7:30pm.
