Matt Maiocco has a few updates on the upcoming 49ers training camp.
Like last year, the 49ers will have open dates to the public for training camp. League rules mandate that the team can start training camp at earliest 15 days before their first preseason game.
The 49ers would probably start camp on July 30. So from now until then, the 49ers players are free to do whatever they want (and stay out of trouble).
Last year, the team had 10 open dates to the public. However, Maiocco speculates that this year, there might be fewer dates for the public.
Since the facility in Santa Clara will be going through some renovations to the locker rooms and dining areas, the team could possibly scale back on open dates. Six was the guess Maiocco made on how many open dates will be available to the public.
I've been talking with the 49ers in hoping that maybe I can get a chance to come up on one of the training camp days and maybe get a chance to sit down with players and staff. It's a work in progress. But with possibly less days, it could be harder.
We'll see when official dates are made public.
