One of the biggest talks this week has surrounded that of NT Aubrayo Franklin. The veteran is in his third and final year of his contract and will attract a lot of teams this off-season. He currently is making a base $2 million this year.

Franklin came to San Francisco in 2007 in part to reunite with then head coach Mike Nolan. Franklin and Nolan were both in Baltimore prior to joining San Francisco. And since the end of last season, Franklin has played tremendously. In fact, I believe he has played at a Pro Bowl level this year.

Franklin is the biggest free agent the team has to resign and franchising him has been talked about as the option to go. The team is willing to franchise Franklin and pay him the $6.058 million one-year deal. It doesn't seem like Franklin would want to just sign an extension (knowing that he won't get paid as much). And with a potential 2010 uncapped year, this might work well enough for the 49ers in the long run.

All week I wondered what the weather would be like for Sunday's game at Lambeau Field. According to Weather.com, we have a high of 51 degrees and a low of 37 degrees. No snow, but some light precipitation and wind will play a factor.

Stay warm 49ers.

The Carolina Panthers lost last night 24-17, leaving them with a 4-6 record. The 49ers hold Carolina's first round pick. Depending on how the Panthers finish, the 49ers might end up with a Top 10 pick. And with that (along with their own draft pick), the 49ers have a great chance to secure talent for the future. However, i don't see them keeping the pick if they can trade it for a veteran or use it to move down.

But that's just me thinking ahead.
