Established American novelist, Walter Kirn, will be visiting American University on Wednesday November 4, as part of the school’s Visiting Writers Series.
In addition to having composed a collection of short stories and several novels, Kirn has also reviewed books for New York magazine and is a contributing editor to both Time and GQ.
Kirn is currently teaching nonfiction writing at the University of Montana and recently completed his first memoir. The memoir, entitled "Lost in the Meritocracy: The Undereducation of an Overachiever," was released in 2009 and details the author's time spent as a student at Princeton University in the 1980s. Laura Miller of The New York Times Book Review calls the memoir "witty" and "self-castigating."
The Visiting Writers Series strives to allow the university to serve as a friendly and ideal scene for both established and emerging writers. Former visiting authors include Alice McDermott, Azar Nafisi, and Tillie Olsen.
The reading will be held in American University’s Butler Boardroom at 8pm.
