Here is an example of why I love technology so much:
Jorge Colombo drew this week’s cover using Brushes, an application for the iPhone, while standing for an hour outside Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Times Square.
The Brushes application costs $4.99 and allows for painting on the touchscreen using a variety of brushes tracking your fingers. Mr. Colombo loves the app, saying that it
"made it easy for me to sketch without having to carry all my pens and brushes and notepads with me, and I like the fact that I am drawing with a set of tools that anybody can have easily in their pocket."
Colombo has posted video of the illustration process, utilizing a feature in the Brushes Viewer companion application, which records each brush stroke and then re-builds the composition as a video (below). Apparently Mr. Colombo leans heavily on the Undo feature - a feature that becomes almost critical:
“It looks like I draw everything with supernatural assurance and very fast — it gets rid of all the hesitations.”
You can see more of Jorge's fantastic iPhone work on his site, and I have to say - he's inspired me to download the app. Five bucks? You can't get a decent brush for five bucks, let alone a whole studio.
