Are stuck downtown for lunch and need some art stat? Or better yet, are you one of the poor, poor masses called upon by the government to do your civic duty - are you on Jury Duty?
Well have no fear my art starved friend. The city is looking out for you by injecting a serious batch of culture to the captive audince. I'm talkin bout the C&C Speaker Series at the Denver City & County Building Jury Commissioner's Room.
During the month of August local favorite, Rodney Wallace will be showing. Mr. Wallace will also be doing an artist talk on Wednesday, August 20th at 5:30 pm on the topic of: "From Idea to Courthouse".
Mr. Wallace finds solace in the process of creating, not necessarally in the the finished work itself:
"I find no need to get emotionally involved with my painting. Quickly get it done and move on. It is not the finished product but the process I like. Technology has made the process of creation extremely efficient. A digital camera and software has replaced the sketchbook and television and the Internet brings images to me. I find that inspiration is fleeting. It is difficult to get emotional about anything that I have no control over in this quick paced environment.
Though visually I have been called a 'Neo Pop' painter, I see my philosophical approach closer to the Minimalist in that I like to take the idea or concept to the barest recognizable visual form. To me painting is a form of communicating. If no one looks at my work there can be no dialogue started and therefore, no communication."
So if you find yourself stuck in the system, take a minute out and get some graphic perspective.
