Escape New York, the signature event of the New York Cycle Club, has more than 1,100 riders signed up in advance -- a 60 % jump over last year, according to ENY chair Ellen Jaffee.

Not registered yet? You're still welcome. Day-of registration gets underway at  7 a.m. for the 100-mile option, 8 a.m. for the 65 mile option, and 9 a.m. for the 50-mile option. The site: Sakura Park at Riverside Drive and 122d Street in Manhattan. Day of event cost: $50.

The routes take cyclists over the George Washington Bridge to some gorgeous lightly-trafficked roads in northern New Jersey and New York's Rockland County. The after-party, including Manganaro's heroes and a flat-fixing contest, starts at Sakura Park about 12:30 p.m. and culminates at 4 p.m. in the drawing for prizes, including a new Trek Madone and a VBT trip to Tuscany with airfare included
