A recent poll by the group Bikes Belong shows that 8 out of 10 bicycle retailers who responded to a recent survey think that bike advocacy is a good thing, because it makes bicycling easier, safer, and more widespread. And 6 out of 10 shops  said advocacy leads to more sales in their stores.
Bikes Belong did the survey last summer. Included were116 bicycle retailers from 34 states. More than half of those surveyed were Bikes Belong members.

The survey also showed that almost 8 of 10 bike shops were themselves members of an advocacy organization, either locally or at the state or national level. They also said they donated, between $1,000 and $5,000 annually to bike advocacy, including cash, product, and staff time.

Bikes Belong is a nonprofit group dedicated to getting more people riding bikes. Based in Boulder, CO, the organizatonis made up of more than 350 bicycle suppliers and retailers
