California-based rock band AFI bring their alternative-pop-punk sound to Chicago this weekend. The band will play the Riviera Theatre on Saturday, November 7 at 8 pm. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

AFI is best-known for their previous two releases, Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground, which combined alternative rock with some experimental and electronic elements and broke the band through to the mainstream. AFI’s sound continues to evolve on their latest release, Crash Love, which takes the once punk band in more of a poppy direction.

“What I’ve written lyrically is different from what people usually expect from me,” frontman Davey Havok said in a recent interview. “A lot of the record is social commentary on the decline of art and culture that we’re all facing today.”

Crash Love entered the Billboard 200 at #12, a disappointment considering that Decemberunderground debuted at #1. AFI's Chicago show at the Riviera Theatre is part of a promotional tour in support of the new album. The lead single, "Medicate," is currently #9 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.

AFI recently recorded a cover of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust,” which they posted for download via their label website.
