It seems that Oakland is building quite its own comedy community within the larger Bay Area Community.

Magic Jester Theater is an improv troupe that will perform on December 11 at the Temescal Arts Center, a cozy performance space off Telepgraph Avenue adjacent to some great restaurants and bars. I have not yet heard of this group performing in the Area.

The Temescal Art Center, for the past year and a half, has been home to Stone Soup Improv for the past year and a half. Stone Soup improv does classic theater sports, but with creative games not usually seen before. They perform the first Saturday of each month, with the next performance on Saturday, December 5. [Tickets here.]

This is in addition to the local favorite variety show Tourette's Without Regrets which plays every first Thursday at the oakland Metro Opera House. I haven't yet seen this one, but I hear it is often over the top and quite the experience (also not for the kids).

Finally, the Oakland Tribune did a feature on comedian Ryan Cronin and also featured Miss Pearl's Jam House which hosts stand-up on Thursday night.
