Steelers Nick Eason gives interesting look behind scenes
Just a few more weeks and the Super Bowl Champs will be hitting the fields in Latrobe. So until that time, just what do the players do to fill their time.
For many its a time to relax with families, but in the case of the Steelers for a lot, it is a time to give back to others.
Limas Sweed recently visited Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital. Heath Miller hosted a golf outing for the Salvation Army, while Ike Taylor and LaMarr Woodley were sponsoring youth football camps.
Nick Eason is another player who recently was out inspiring others, as he spoke to youths for a project called reclaiming our children, in his hometown.

His story about how it was a tough road traveled to get to where he is today proved to be very interesting.
Eason sat down with
Effingham Herald Sports Editor Pat Donahue after the event and talked about winning the Super Bowl, the aftermath, and what it took to get there. It was a different take on the NFL and the Steelers that many may not know.
One of the things Eason talked about was all the work that goes into making a winning team. True there are practices each week, but he was talking about the classroom side and all the study that is done.
“I sit in a desk and I may work for about eight and a half, nine hours,” Eason told Donahue. “I’m in a classroom all day long. We get a playbook (a few inches) thick and we get three days to learn it.”

He also talked about the certain penalties that Mike Tomlin will levy on players who slack off so to speak.
"Falling asleep in a meeting is a $1,200 fine," Eason said. "A cell phone going off in a meeting? That’s $700. Miss a practice? “It’s $9,000 right out of your check."
Eason also talked about getting fined by the NFL for having his shirt untucked on the sidelines after he had come out of a game for good. That levy was $5,000.
The interesting thing was how the NFL works and the way he was informed. According to Eason, A Federal Express package from the league office on a player’s chair Monday morning is the tip off a player has been fined.
Eason also spoke of how dumb players can be, especially when on a practice squad and a bad team like the Cleveland Browns comes calling.
“I’ve done signed a three-year contract,” he said of his deal with Cleveland. “I asked myself, ‘What have I got myself into?’”
What he got into was a 14-34 record. “No matter how hard we tried, we still lost,” he said.
The funniest though, was Eason talking abou how much current North Carolina coach Butch Davis was despised by players. When Davis got fired, he said the team celebrated.
“I’ve never seen a place party when a coach gets fired,” he said. “Someone ordered cupcakes.”
