Sunday’s contest will mark Todd Haley’s first-ever encounter with the Steelers as an NFL head coach. A graduate of Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Haley is the son of legendary Steelers personnel man Dick Haley, who played a pivotal role in the acquisition of 10 Pittsburgh players who are now enshrined in Canton.

Those 10 players were selected to a total of 67 Pro Bowls during their respective careers and are the owners of a combined 37 Super Bowl rings, including one earned by CB Rod Woodson with Baltimore in 2000.

The elder Haley’s ’74 draft class with Pittsburgh featured four Hall of Famers – LB Jack Lambert, C Mike Webster, as well as WRs Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. Thanks to a host of Haley acquisitions, the Steelers would claim four Super Bowl crowns over a six-year span from ’74-79. Dick Haley was a standout halfback at the University of Pittsburgh and spent six seasons playing RB/CB in the NFL with Washington (’59-60), Minnesota (’61) and Pittsburgh (’61-64).

NOTEBOOK

Kansas City is one of nine teams to have a 100-yard rusher against the Steelers since 2000 (two by Priest Holmes).

The Steelers have won three straight games against AFC West opponents, including a 2-0 record this
year with wins over San Diego (Week 4) and Denver (Week 9). Head Coach Mike Tomlin is 3-1 against AFC West teams but has yet to face the Kansas City Chiefs.

Several Steelers have ties to the Chiefs and the Kansas City area. Steelers with connections to the Chiefs include LB Keyaron Fox, who played his first four seasons (2004-07) in the NFL with Kansas City. C Justin Hartwig played collegiately at Kansas University. Rookie DE Ziggy Hood played at Missouri. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians coached for the Chiefs from 1989-92. K Jeff Reed was born in Kansas City, Mo.

The Steelers defense has been known for shutting down their opponents and this year is no different. Pittsburgh ranks first in total defense in the AFC and third in the NFL by allowing just 277.4 yards per game.
