I hung out with Trust Nothing and Marcus of Oakland's Pyrate Punx at zeitgeist in the Mission. Here's what they had to say about their West Coast tour, the English language, and how they made their way to play in the USA.

Marisa: What was your reaction when you first knew you were going to play shows in the States?

Ramon: Incredible. Speechless is the word. A lot of this (punk rock) music comes from North America, so for us, it was a dream.

Marisa: How did you end up finding Marcos Pyrate Punx in Oakland?

Diego: We played (for) four days in the UK. We then met him through John from the Pyrate Punx in England.

Marcos (Pyrate Punx): We started our faction in Oakland back in '97. Since then, we've been booking shows and finding great bands like (Trust Nothing). They played at our compound in Oakland and they played all over the West Coast in October.

Marisa: Where do you like to play out here in California?

Ramon: We loved playing the Hazmat in Oakland.

Diego interrupts: The home of the Pyrate Punx.

Ramon: It's a warehouse out in Oakland. An underground punk venue.

Marisa: With all the travelling you guys do, how is it for you, Ana, to be around a bunch of guys all day?

Ana: Terrible (laughs)! No, guys are great. I'm mean in the morning, and they're very patient with me.

 Marisa: Any last words?

INA: The people here in California are very (hospitable). They help us out every time we're lost. It's crazy! As Ramon says, we're too f***ing far away from home, so it's nice when your hosts treat you well.

Ana: We're still learning English, but we have a lot of help.  I think the guys' favorite word is motherf***er. It's fun to learn English. We enjoy being in North America, playing shows, and meeting the punks who make it possible to have our scene.

Ramon: The shows out here, in Chico, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Bremerton, were amzaing. The punk scene here (in North America) is strong and we want to come back to play the East Coast.

Marisa: Thanks guys!
