Delbert W. Baker is well on his way to a marathon quest of epic proportions -- literally.
The president of Oakwood University, a historically black Seventh-Day Adventist institution in Huntsville, Alabama, ran the ING New York City Marathon Nov. 1. It was the 32nd state in which he has run a marathon, part of his quest to run marathons in all 50 states. He has already done 40 races on all seven continents, according to the Oakwood University Office of Advancement and Development.
So far, Baker has raised nearly $300,000 as part of the Running for Scholarships program, including $12,000 for the New York Marathon, which he finished in a time of 4 hours 49 minutes (4:49:00).
He raised $150,000 when he ran the Antarctica Marathon in December 2008.
