One recovered well from a tough loss; the other lost to a team that recovered from an even tougher loss.
Florida A&M lost 35-20 to highly-ranked South Carolina State two weeks ago, then roared back to beat Howard last week, 34-20.
Last week, Morgan State, which had been tied for the MEAC lead with South Carolina State, lost 35-22 to Delaware State, a team that was absolutely mauled by Michigan, 63-6, in a game that wasn't even that close.
Now, the Bears (5-2, 3-1) must stop the Rattlers (5-2, 3-1) to break the second-place tie in the conference and keep their title hopes alive. A victory this weekend and next week versus Norfolk State would have Morgan State taking on South Carolina State with just one conference loss.
Florida A&M is led by quarterback Chris Pulley, who has completed 110 of 180 passes for 1,483 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also leads the Rattlers in rushing with 592 yards and three scores. FAMU averages 379.6 yards of offense per game. They've outscored opponents 204 to 147.
For Morgan State, offense has been a little hard to come by, but, except for last week, the defense has been excellent. The Bears have had wins of 12-9, 7-6 and 14-7, but have been outscored 95-121. They are led by quarterback Carlton Jackson, who has thrown for 855 yards and seven touchdowns. The offense manages just 210.7 yards a game.
