A stunning centerpiece or thoughtful hostess gift!
A stunning centerpiece or thoughtful hostess gift!

You can have a fabulous floral centerpiece this Thanksgiving without calling the florist. It's easy, once you know a few tricks of the trade. Do it yourself and you'll save money, have tons of fun and feel a true sense of accomplishment, especially when you can surprise your guests and family by saying, "I made it myself!" It would also make a wonderful hostess gift if you're dining away from home. Fresh flowers make everyone smile!

I found this decorative basket at the craft store for about $6.00. You may already have a festive container or basket around the house. A vegetable server from your good china would work well. You could even use a cornucopia. For your other mechanics you'll need a candle, a watertight liner, bamboo skewers and a block of wet floral foam, sometimes called Oasis, available at most craft stores. Be careful not to get the foam designed for silk or artificial flowers!

Take a look at the slideshow for further instructions. Also visit my website, Flowers Made Simple and read my other articles. You might especially like "Beginners Guide to Floral Arranging" , "Do-It-Yourself Fall Floral Arrangement", and "Flowers, Pumpkins and Halloween treats".

I'll take you step-by-step through creating my design, but I want you to use your imagination to think of what you can substitute and how can make this your own one of a kind arrangement.
