The high temperature in Maplewood, New Jersey today was 54 degrees. It’s enough to make a summer lover such as myself itchy for spring to break through. So it’s very ironic that with today’s downright balmy weather, this morning Punxsutawney Phil inadvertently predicted six more weeks of winter. This leaves me to find a way to deal with the extension of the winter season.

The following list came about while I was in angst, dealing with the enjoyment of today’s spring preview and then with the knowledge that the deep-freeze would be returning probably tomorrow. Here are a few tips that may help sustain you for six or more weeks:

  • Go shopping or maybe even window shopping, and check out the new spring clothing lines and sandals, perhaps at the Short Hills Mall (www.shopshorthills.com).
  • Tanning salon – having that sun-kissed feeling will give your wintry mood a lift.
  • Work-out – feeling pumped, fit and energized will have you ready when spring arrives, and it’s time to shed the coats. (Check out www.MaplewoodBootcamps.com.)
  • Go for a new haircut or highlights and new spring make up. The make-over will have you welcoming the warmer weather.
  • Take a swim class at the YMWCA, so you’ll be beach or pool ready.
  • Get a mani-pedi, and choose bright spring colors.
  • Visit a day spa with a poolside lunch, such as The Spa at Short Hills, at Hilton Short Hills.
  • Plan an exotic summer trip, along with tours and excursions.
  • Buy a good book. By the time you’re finished, you’ll be that much closer to spring.

I hope these tips assist you on getting through, and actually enjoying the next several weeks. They may even help you to better enjoy the warmer weather once it arrives.
