Just across from the busy Crestwood, NY train station lies a traditional taste of Ireland with a touch of flair. Stephen's Green Bar and Restaurant, also may be known to true Irish lads as the infamous band duo and Dublin natives, Andy O'Driscoll and Martin Doyle or as Saint Stephen Green the historical downtown Dublin park known for having the most beautiful foliage in the city.

Although we are quite far from Ireland you instantly feel right at home. A set of flags, one Irish the other American, graze each other outside as you walk into the fairly roomy pub. You are then greeted by a lovely hostess with an impressive brogue, which almost every server has, and are offered the option of staying at the bar or sitting in the adjoining dining room. The bar is cozy and large enough to sit at with a guest while ordering appetizers or dinner. You will not feel overwhelmed by a large noisy crowd, instead a bit at ease and ready to take a load off. The bar area is a perfect spot to watch the game and drink a pint, or two. Two large flat screen TVs are propped high on the wall for all to see, and some of the best surround sound I've experienced since my last visit to the theater is to be heard.

If you choose to sit in the dining room area there are plenty of tables that can seat up to parties of ten. The dark cherry wood is warm and the candles burning smell like autumn and spice. Paneled wood windows surround the dining area giving you the feeling of being in a quaint cottage in the hills of Dublin, and the skylight above sets the perfect lighting inside. The beer list is just right offering a selection of eight brews on tap including Guinness, Harp, Smithwick's, Stella Artois and Sam Adams seasonals. A variety of house wines are offered as well for the wine connoisseur. Stephen's menu does not only offer the average bar food, but instead bar bites taken to another level. Burgers are big and cooked just perfectly to your requested order. Sandwiches are large and served with crispy potato wedges that can be splashed with malt vinegar or dipped in your sauce of choice.

Do not miss: The crispy hot wings sauced to perfection and sided with chunky blue cheese, crisp celery and carrot sticks. The Irish styled nachos topped with four cheeses, jalapenos, sour cream and sauteed corned beef. For the Irish cuisine lovers try the Dublin-style fish and chips or the bangers and mash, a plate of Irish sausages atop mashed potatoes in an apple cider gravy. Also known as perfection. Of course every great meal should be topped off with a nip of sweetness. Order the French vanilla crumb cheesecake. I shared this dessert with two friends and the serving was just enough to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth.

On Wednesday nights from 9 pm to closing the pub holds karaoke night! The crowd is typically amusing and the songs sung even more. Stephen Green's is a great local joint for friends and family. Conveniently located by the Tuckahoe and Crestwood Metro North stops and metered parking.
