Season 8's American Idol Kris Allen stopped by one of New York's popular radio stations, Z100, on Monday morning in order to premier his debut single entitled "Live Like We're Dying," originally recorded by the Irish band The Script.
The song met with a multitude of praise from listeners and Kris fans. The message of the song speaks to people, as does the catchy melody and upbeat tone. It is one of the best initial post-Idol singles since the show began, mainstream but still fresh. Kris's voice showcases a new sort of ease that was never present on the reality show that boosted him to fame. Of course, with Simon Cowell constantly glaring at you, how could you ever be at ease?
Kris also gives Elvis Duran's Morning Show an interview. They asked him about what he did musically before American Idol. Kris said that he was,
"...playing in bars, 3 hour shows, singing every song under the sun, taking requests from people... I was trying to do my best... I was actually trying to go back to school right before that, and this was actually one of the last ditch efforts."
He spoke of his first job, which was scooping ice cream at the frozen yogurt chain TCBY. Kris also harbors a love for the fast food chain Chick-Fil-A, which isn't as prevalent in Los Angeles as it is in Arkansas, leading Kris to missing their fried chicken and pickle sandwiches. The DJs also asked about Kris's lack of southern accent. While his voice does usually neutralize, he said that thick hints of Arkansas become more prevalent when he's around his father.
