On November 3rd, Momsmiami.com provided Miami moms with an opportunity to share their entrepreneurial experiences, learn from each other and putting faces on those names they have heard and read from for quite a while. For those unfamiliar with Momsmiami, it is an online community launched by The Miami Herald a year and a half ago, where South Florida moms can find relevant information, news and resources.
For Stay-at-home moms, attending this kind of events definitely inspires to continue broadening your mind beyond diaper changing. All these are women who have taken the challenge of balancing work and life, most of them from their kitchen counters. It is possible, they have done it. And they shared their experiences.
There were represented widely known “mom friendly” businesses like Avon or Mary Kay, current trends like soy moisturizing candles, nutritional products, natural cleaning products, eco-clothing lines, and bold ideas like “I’m the Maven” by Whitney Zimet, who joined her care for the environment with her networking abilities to provide schools with reusable bags and valuable coupons from local businesses.
Introduced by Cindy Goodman from The Miami Herald, Mrs. Charlene Pacenti, editor of MomsMiami.com, welcomed the guests and explained the vision for the rest of the venue: To harness the wisdom of mothers in South Florida and to inspire the attendees to take action on the project they have in their minds. Charlene concluded her speech with a simple but powerful statement: “After motherhood everything else is easy”. It is totally true.
The guest speakers at the event were Marla Brock, a lawyer and former Google employee who founded PlanetZee.com and Misha Kurlya-Gomez, founder of Misha's Cupcakes, who shared their journeys to success, the bumps found on the road and the learning process that have led them to be the successful Mompreneurs they are today. To conclude the event Lisa Sparks, from Constant Contact explained the advantage of relying on e-mail marketing as one of the most effective tools for connecting with your customers without leaving your home.
There is time for everything in this life. Maybe for you this is the time to focus on taking care of the children. But don’t give up your dreams; you can begin placing the stepping stones to reach them. It is possible. All these South Florida moms are doing it and succeeding in the process.
