The Saginaw City Council has authorized the replacement of more than 4000 manualy read residential water meters with new, electronic meters. The meters will be replaced by U.S. Bronco, a contractor working for the City.

U.S. Bronco began replacing meters in November, 2009 and residents who are slated to receive a replacement will be notified by a door-hanger prior to the change with important information and contact numbers

The contractor estimates that water will be shut off no longer than 30 minutes, though in the event of problems or a disaster, the time could be longer. The new meters are read electronically, which not only reduces the number of man hours necessary to read them as compared to the current manual menthod, but also reduces the human error factor.
