Prosecutors are deciding whether to file criminal charges against Richard and Mayumi Heene. Latimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden has accused the Heenes of lying to officials for reporting their 6-year-old son, Falcon, was aboard a runaway homemade balloon. Falcon was found hiding in the family home.

Sheriff Alderden may have broken privacy laws when he disclosed that child welfare workers were involved in the inquiry, the Heenes claim. The Larimer DA’s office will be looking into that allegation.

The investigation is now expected to take about two weeks.
