HSBC 2009 Champions Tournament Final Round
Phil Mickelson the worlds 2nd ranked golfer claims yet another title in Shanghai winning this years 2009 HSBC Champions Tournament. This is Phil's 4th world wide victory of the year and his 2nd career HSBC trophy. Phil Mickelson held off a charging Ernie Els to finalize his victory with a one shot lead and finishing at -17 under par for the tournament. Tiger Woods was two shots behind Phil going into the final round but would not have a typical "Tiger" Sunday as he finished the tournament tied for 6th place. Ernie Els tied a course record shooting at -9 under par with a 63 for the round but it wasnt quite enough to capture the trophy. Phil Mickelson had earned $1.2 Million with this victory and it is the first time he won a tournament while playing in the final group with Tiger Woods. The end results could have been much different but with Phil sinking an 18 footer to save par on the 16th hole and Ernie Els on the 18th hole from 218 yards out to the front of the green ended up hitting his 2nd shot right into the water which is what sealed his fate and giving Phil the victory. Phil Mickelson now joins Tiger Woods as the only two players to win multiple WGC Events in the same season.
