Cafe Wha Who? is River North's answer to Greenwich Village's Cafe Wha? although, surprisingly, they are not related, Cafe Wha Who? could be the next big thing to hit this Chicago neighborhood.

Upon entering Cafe Wha Who?, escaping the cold Fall rain, customers are immediately welcomed with a wide entry way and plenty of places to sit and relax or work on their laptops.  (Cafe Wha Who? has free WiFi, just ask the barista for the password.)  With exposed brick, low lighting and modern black leather club chairs, the place practically begs you to sit and stay for a while.  Local art work adorns the walls and for the young at heart or the just plain young, there are plenty of board games to enjoy while sipping on their Italian coffee selections. The mellow sounds of modern jazz and jazz standards complete the warm and inviting ambience. Upstairs, the cafe offers live music and a full bar including a decent selection of bottled beer, wine by the glass and even champagne.

Their menu doesn't leave much to be desired either. A beautiful selection of sweet and savory pastries provided by Delightful Pastries and an appetite pleasing offering of several quiches and simple appetizer plates of cheese, charcuterie and even hummus will be sure to whet your appetite. (An overheard customer to his guest said,"They have the best hummus in town.") If you're in the mood for a bowl of hot soup, they've got that covered too with a daily selection of either Hearty Chicken Noodle, Minestrone, or Vegetable Medley.

Of course, what's a cafe without a great cup of coffee though, right?  Cafe Wha Who? proudly serves coffee imported from Italy from a company named Guglielmo.  The latte produced from this espresso is certainly one to be desired.  The espresso is sweet, slightly nutty, and very aromatic, and with the barista's skilled hand the steamed milk and foam laid perfectly on top to create a delicious afternoon pick me up.  Coffee selections include brewed coffee, mochas, cappuccinos, and of course, lattes. They are now open in the mornings to accomodate your morning commute with a great tasting freshly brewed cup of coffee which is ground fresh in the cafe.  The brew changes daily.

Cafe Wha Who? does not have an events list or a website just yet but according to Robert, their friendly General Manager, these are coming soon! He did inform me though, that they are having an Art Show on November 20th to change out the local art in the cafe.  Call or stop by the cafe for more details. The cafe is closed on Sunday, but is open Monday through Friday 7am-9pm and on Saturday from 12pm-9pm, sometimes later if business is booming, and with the great customer service and savvy flair, this cafe is sure to be a hit.
