If you're working hard all through this weekend, or couldn't justify squandering precious spondulicks on a babysitter only for a night in the local dive bar, catch some brilliant Monday night burlesque in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Hosted by Nasty Canasta and featuring Clams Casino, Sweet & Nasty Burlesque presents "There Will Be Boobs", a tribute to Paul Thomas Anderson, it begins at 10pm at Public Assembly on 70 North Six Street; the cover charge is $10. Of course, for $10 you could always stay home and roast a chicken, but if you want to see some live bare breasts in action, Clams Casino is highly recommended. A favorite amongst colleagues and friends for her innovation, she has been performing since 2004 after ditching a nine-to-five career in the advertising industry and she's incredibly creative. Other performers are Victoria Privates, Mel & Fanny Frye, Darlinda Just Darlinda, Sapphire Jones, Bastard Keith and Madame Rosebud. The evening will begin at 9.30pm with some go-go dancing by Ginger Brown.
The show is inspired by Paul Thomas Anderson, the director who gave us There Will Be Blood, Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia, Boogie Nights and The Dirk Diggler Story. The show promises to feature "tassel-twirling tributes to pudding, pornography, anger management, oil wells, motivational speakers and more". Who doesn't love pudding? Burlesque can be Broadway, vaudeville, or plain stripping, but this show will be variety: absurd, humorous, clever.
Sweet & Nasty appears on the third Monday of every month as part of their Monday Night Burlesque series, so you'll have to wait a while if you miss this show. It's a guaranteed knockout, however, so don't miss it.
