This week was full of excitement going on in the music industry. What's Happening In Music is the place to find out what your favorite artists have been up to. Here's what's been happening in the first week of November.

The Beatles music ban has everyone on the internet talking about the man who says that his re-record versions of the songs are his "synthetic creation of that series of sounds which best expresses the way I believe a particular melody should be heard as a live performance." Mr. Risan is being sued by EMI, the owner of the copyrights for the Beatles catalog, and Judge John Walter of the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles told the internet website Bluebeat.com to stop streaming and or selling the music. Although this is only a temporary victory for EMI now, the trail will continue with agreeing lawyers on November 20th. For more information click here.

The European MTV Awards was a big hit! U2 played a "mini," 20 minute show for the 10,000 people outside at the Berlin's Brandenburg Park. And EMA showed their gratitude by announcing the first winners of the evening for Best Live Act as U2. While performing for the crowd Jay-Z joined in the celebration of the Anniversary of the Berlin Wall. He led the crowd in a chant of Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up." Beyonce got 3 awards being the biggest winner of the evening. Other winners icluded Lady Gaga, and Eminem. For more information click here

Could the future of Country Music be at risk? Well George Jones, Country Music Hall of Famer told the Washington Post that he isn't happy with what country music has turned into. When asked what he thought about Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift he said, "They had to use something that was established already, and that's traditional country music. So what they need to do really, I think, is find another title, because they're definitely not traditional country music." (I realize that a lot of people out there are probably offended by Jones' comments but I have to say, he's right. Traditional country music doesn't really exist anymore. It's all pop country and that's a completely different genre.) Jones also stated his gratitude for artist like Alan Jackson and George Strait keeping traditional country music in the scene and he and other country artists are hoping that traditional country music will soon return. "Only thing I would like to keep accomplishing is music for my fans and achieving some goals to keep them happy with what I record in the future. I've done just about everything else. The good Lord's been good to me...I'm going to enjoy the rest of my life." For more information click here.

As of Monday, both the House Judiciary Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee have approved the Performance Rights Act. And the chairman of both committees have made a suggestion, asking key players in the legislation to negotiate a resolution. The NAB (Nation Ass. of Broadcasters) has requested that they negotiate before the act is taken to the floor of the house and that these negotiations take place between November 17 and December 1. "musicFIRST will participate in the discussions hosted by members and staff of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees," said Jennifer Bendall, NAB President, in an e-mailed statement. "We have always said we are ready to sit down with NAB and others in the music radio business to create a performance right that is fair to artists, musicians and rights holders and fair to radio.” For more information click here.
