Tragic and serious news from TPM today, folks. Not that we couldn’t see this coming.
According to eyewitness sources, under the apparently blind eye of the global media, the two leaders had lengthy conversations. The media covered the friendly photo of the initial handshake between the two leaders, then made much ado about an apparently-impertinent Chavez handing Obama a book in Spanish by Eduardo Galleano.
What has not been reported is that Obama, leaving his advisers behind, held lengthy private conversations with Chavez where only an interpreter was present.
We have a South American marxist oriented dictator who funds paramilitary groups and drug cartels intent on undermining democratic, capitalist leaning governments in the western hemisphere having private friendly conversations with the American President, and no one seems concerned?!
To remind you, Barack Obama was/is a member of the New Party, a known communist oriented organization that, to get their political endorsement back in the 90’s, Obama had to pledge allegiance to them.
Now, as President, Barack Obama is undermining the democratic government of Honduras, a long time American ally, and doing nothing to help Columbia fend off the drug cartels being funded by Chavez.
Ladies and gentlemen, we’re so busy watching Barack Obama destroy American capitalism in his domestic policy, we’ve failed to pay attention that he is also destroying our long time foreign policy ideals too.
He’s got 60, so he thinks
He’s got those sixty votes, you see. And he’s impatient. Impatient of the way that people are still getting in the way of his shepherding of a health care plan that neither him nor his will ever have to use. Huffington Post reports Schumer thinks he can get health care reform, with a public option to destroy private sector health insurance, through the Senate.
Of course, he has a number of Senators up for re-election in 2010 in states John McCain won and those citizens are already feeling pain in the wallet.
It’s 1993 all over again
The New Republic, under the leadership of Jonathan Cohn, has been the number one cheerleader for health care reform writ large.
His repeated exhortations for reform has had a similar effect to Paul Krugman of the NYT on the Democratic Party.
It is why this article from the New Republic is oh, so very, very important.
Stanley Greenberg was the pollster who lead the Democratic Party down the lose-56-seats-in-the-U.S.-House path of the spectacular failure of Hillary-care. OK, that is probably an overstatement, but, his polls had a whole lot to do with the Democratic Party pushing all their chips onto the table on Health Care Reform last time around.
Greenberg dusted off his memos to President Clinton and the poll questions he asked back then, and asked them again, now.
In an OH NO MR. BILL moment, the worst case scenario to the polling questions happened again.

If Obama gets his way on healthcare, you may see stories like this in the United States soon.
A former soldier pulled his own teeth out with a pair of pliers because he could not find a dentist to take on NHS patients.
Iraq War veteran Ian Boynton could not afford to go private for treatment so instead took the drastic action to remove 13 of his teeth that were giving him severe pain.
The 42-year-old, from Beverley, East Yorkshire, had not had his teeth looked at since seeing the army dentist in 2003. He had not been registered with a dentist of his own since 2001.
The British and Canadian healthcare systems are used as ideals by leftists who want a public option for healthcare services. They say, and Barack Obama says, he will not make you give up your private plan. But we know that the public option will make the private options so expensive, they’ll collapse. Additionally, we know that some employers will shut down their private plans to save money.
Hey, these things cost money.
Let’s say you live in Missouri, believe in energy efficiency, and go about your house re-insulating it, swapping incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs, buying a more efficient heating and air system, installing new windows, etc.
Let’s say that because you did all of that, your power bill has been cut in half. You’ve saved money by spending a good chunk of change and you’ve helped the environment by consuming less power.
Guess what?
The legislature, Governor, and power industry in Missouri have decided you will now pay a higher power bill because you are not using enough power to help the energy companies cover their costs.
Representative Michele Bachmann blogs about her new legislation
It is unthinkable, but today consumers and businessmen aren’t deciding what cars should be manufactured or what dealerships should be successful or how much advertising is enough. Government is making these decisions.
Simply put, politics and business operate in different ways and are vulnerable to different influences as they strive to reach very different goals. Each Member of Congress in Washington is looking out for his or her own state or district’s interests and sometimes that works against the interest of the company they are now essentially running. When Congress stepped into the Board Room, it set itself up to try to achieve two sometimes contradictory goals – protect their constituents and save this company. Government is simply ill-equipped to try to be both the governor and the governed – and it surely can’t do both well.
I am a proud cosponsor of the Automobile Dealer Economic Rights Restoration Act of 2009 that would honor a car companies previous commitments to local car dealers. I have written to both President Obama and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and asked them to reverse course. And, I’m looking into whatever legal options might be available for Congress to give these dealerships a fighting chance. These businesses are community landmarks, important job providers, and local economic catalysts. They deserve better treatment from their government than arbitrary pink slips that wipe out a lifetime’s work and investment.
The American Dream is in need of saving, and it’s up to all of us to work hard to save it.

According to Gallup, despite the election of Barack Obama and the Democratic strength in Congress (or because of it), Americans say they are becoming more conservative. For those who may not have realized it, this again emphasizes the importance to Republicans of restoring their credibility as the party of conservatism. While the mainstream media continues to ask how Republicans will moderate their views to compete more effectively, the reality is that they need to demonstrate that they believe what they say about limited government, personal responsibility, and a strong national defense.
