1. RED ALERT: GOP Members Wavering on Supplemental

The vote is today

Sources are telling me that Rahm Emanuel, having failed to secure enough Democrats to vote for H.R. 2346, the 2009 Supplemental Appropriations Act, is trying to pick off Republicans.

If you will remember, the Supplemental would fund an International Monetary Fund bailout of European banks and also would funnel money to the Iranian regime.

Please encourage as many as you can to call the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask members of Congress to vote no on H.R. 2346. The wavering Republicans are said to be:

  • Fred Upton (MI)
  • Illeana Ros-Lehtinen (FL)
  • Bill Young (FL)
  • Vern Buchanan (FL)
  • Chris Smith (NJ)
  • Leonard Lance (NJ)
  • Frank LoBiondo (NJ)
  • Judy Biggert (IL)
  • Tim Johnson (IL)
  • Aaron Schock (IL)
  • Charlie Dent (PA)

THE VOTE IS TODAY.

2. Our healthcare is that bad?

Obama talks down our healthcare system, but that does not make it as bad as he thinks it is.

According to Barack Obama, our healthcare is worse than other nations and more expensive.

Now, we know how the American state-run media will respond. Starting tomorrow, Katie Couric, the gang at MSNBC, etc. will profile people who died in American hospitals and like with Obama’s “created or saved jobs” rhetoric, they’ll say the person could have been saved in a European hospital.

That, of course, will not be true. And we know it won’t be true based on the number of stories of people from Europe and Canada who come to the United States for treatment because of the lack of waiting and amazing healthcare.

Silvo Berlusconi, Italy’s Prime Minister, is but one example.

Belinda Stronach, a Liberal MP from Canada, is another example.

It’s why the United States has a visa program for medical visits to the United States.

And it is why you can find people all over the internet begging for information on getting sick relatives to the United States for better treatment.

Back in 2000, Democrats accused George Bush of talking down the economy. We should be able to say here, if nothing else, that Barack Obama is talking down the best healthcare system in the world to fit his needs. And he is doing a great disservice to American doctors and nurses.

3. Democrats Seek to Kill Health Care Program Obama Praises

The Obama Con: It’s Not ME; CONGRESS Killed Private Sector Health Care

Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal covered the innovative private-sector health care program which Safeway offers to its employees. It sounds like a model for how market incentives can encourage workers to live healthier and more active lifestyles.

The Safeway approach is precisely the direction we should be headed in health care: one that gives individuals greater control over their costs and their plans. A central failure of our existing system - one that would be exacerbated by socializing health care - is that it divorces individuals from the costs of their health care. It puts employers and taxpayers on the hook for much of the cost, and gives individuals no incentive to make rational cost-benefit analyses about their care.

Programs like Safeway’s provide valuable ammunition for conservatives. While liberals scream that we must do something, we have an example of what works: a commonsense system of incentives and penalties - which still doesn’t impose onerous costs on workers.

No less an authority than Barack Obama has praised Safeway for its innovative approach.

If Obama really believes we ought to do more to expand programs like this one, he needs to have a talk with his friends in Congress. They are planning to make the Safeway program illegal.

4. Barack Obama Either Does Not Know Much About Geopolitics or Does Not Care

Wonder how they like him now.

You could be forgiven for thinking Barack Obama is intentionally screwing the Brits. It is hard to imagine a man who claims to be so smart doing something as dumb as sending GTMO detainees to Bermuda without Bermuda’s home government’s permission.

Because you are neither the President of the United States nor the Secretary of State of the United States, you could be forgiven for thinking that reaching out to Bermuda’s Premier would be an appropriate way to deal with the Uighurs.

The President of the United States and Secretary of State, however, should know or or have advisors who know that Bermuda is “a territory under the sovereignty of the UK, which is responsible for foreign and security policy.” In other words, the Brits are, yet again, angry with Obama for ignoring them.

The Brits are already unhappy with Obama for appearing to “undermine the tough stance adopted by the West towards Tehran” on the campaign trail, in addition to Obama’s weak stance on open trade.

But it is not just the Brits. It’s also the the people of Bermuda who do not take too kindly to Obama parking the Uighurs there.
