Babies love music.  Your little guy or gal probably doesn't have the attention span to sit for an entire viewing of Finding Nemo, let alone Sesame Street, but they will rock out to some tunes while you clean the house or enjoy tummy time together.

So this leaves many new parents with the dilemma of what to listen to?  Even if the baby can't actually comprehend the lyrics to that old Green Day cd of yours, you may not feel entirely comfortable playing it around them regardless.

Babies tend to like soothing, playful beats with lots of percussion or classical choices.  If cd covers with jungle animals on them make you twitch and shudder at the mere thought, give these suggestions a try:

Guster- Thick percussion and breezy beats that for some reason, seem to sooth and lull the baby.  Great for car rides if your little one is fussy and you aren't keen on the idea of riding around listening to Barney with the windows rolled down.  Your hipness factor as a new parent, while already so dismal, may hop up just a teenie bit.

Josh Groban- That touch of classical, but with a bit of a modern twist.  Not to mention, he's a bit of a romantic, so its nice to play around your spouse as well.  Two birds and all that.

The Beach Boys- Who doesn't love The Beach Boys?  The songs are beyond catchy and the lyrics are repetitve, which, let's face it,  babies love.  Try dancing around your house with your little one in hand to "Help me Rhonda".  Giggles are guarenteed.

Wherever your lyrical taste falls, share it with your baby.  It's never too early to start their musical education.
