We have always thought that insurance was for life, home, health and car. Expand that quartet to include weddings. Scores of brides over the years have kept their fingers crossed and made alternative plans when they scheduled an out of doors wedding. Most had a Plan B in their back pocket in case of rain. But today's weddings are way beyond the concept of a backup tent and extra chairs. Today's brides are purchasing insurance.

With average wedding expenditures growing, more and more brides are budgeting wedding insurance. As one bride has said," for a few hundred dollars, you can buy peace of mind." While only a small percentage of brides invest in insurance, the number is growing. Brides are buying policies which cover bad weather, serious illness, a damaged dress, wedding photographs, reimbursement of non refundable deposits in case of a military deployment and in some cases, counseling after canceled nuptials. In addition, most policies cover:

Key people: If people crucial to the wedding are unable to attend due to illness or injury.

Special jewelry: If those items are lost or stolen prior to the wedding.

Loss of deposits: If a vendor, such as the caterer goes bankrupt, ceases to do business or fails to provide the contracted services, deposits maybe reimbursed.

It may not be in your planning guide for your wedding, but do stop and talk with one of our professionals about the role of insurance in your upcoming plans. We are not insurance agents but we do know about the unexpected. We can help you plan to cover most of your ceremony and reception arrangements and share with you our experience on dealing with the "unexpected".
